Bug Description

I use Autokey-GTK to auto-type common phrases into emails. If I'm using an email client, it usually works fine, but when I use gmail via Firefox the phrases I auto-type with often be missing characters from the middle of strings.

Another bug, dealing with AutoKey-GTK not working in Ubuntu 14.10, (via Alberto Salvia Novella) revealed to me what was likely causing this in Ubuntu 14.04.

It seems to be caused by ibus.

After disabling ibus, I have not seen this "missing characters" bug reproduce itself again.

The way to disable ibus is:
Settings > Language Support > Language tab > Keyboard input method system : none

So, autokey and ibus seem to conflict each other. In 14.04 it effects auto-key accuracy and performance. And in 14.10, it corrupts autokey's output severely.

Disabling ibus is the work-around, but I'm reporting this in case someone might know how to make these services play well with each other.

I've just noticed this same issue in Ubuntu 16.04.

Disabling ibus continues to be a work-around.

Situation got worse in Ubuntu 16.04 because removing ibus results in issues with the US international keyboard. Dead keys work sometimes, sometimes not. The workaround of removing ibus does not anymore work here:

- Dead keys do not work in gnome terminal
- In gedit, dead keys work if gedit launched and opened a file from within gedit. When gedit is launched from double clicking a text file in explorer, dead keys do not anymore work.
