Bug Description

Binary package hint: audacity

Hallo I have problems with Audacity. My system:

1) Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron
2) Audacity 1.3.4-1.1ubuntu1

3) I have two Problems:

*1
I want to open the Settings of Audacity. With the Audacity-version of Ubuntu 7.1 I need only some seconds for that but with Ubuntu 8.04 and Audacity 1.3.4 beta I need 30 Seconds or more. But the settings will open (if I wait long enough). When I finished my work in the setting menu I want to confirm and close the setting menu. But this needs again 30 seconds up to one minute.

*2
This is the bigger problem!
I can't record the the stereo mix channel from my soundcard! With the Audacity of Ubuntu 7.1 I always choosed the "ALSA:default" as input device to capture the sound. With Audacity 1.3.4 and Ubuntu 8.04 I can't record sound from any input device! If I press the record-button in the main window I get the message that the input device can't open and the settings are maybe wrong.
I have tested all input devices that Audacity had. Always the same result.

best regards
Marf

It seems to be related with PulseAudio. I'm unable to use Audacity anymore. Maybe change sound to ALSA and reboot would solve the problem.

Ok, I can confirm that switching to ALSA (System → Preferences → Sound) and changing Audacity preferences to use ALSA Default solves the problem. So, it's a conflict between PulseAudio and Audacity.

And just one appreciation more. This version (1.3.4-1.1ubuntu1) is completely buggy and unstable. audacity_1.3.3-1ubuntu0.1 (http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy-updates/i386/audacity/download) from gusty packages works perfect, no crash, no hangs.

I agree, this version is pretty bad. Maybe version 1.3.5 is better. It would be nice have a new version in hardy-updates.

I have the same problem and the same audio card (different revision though I have rev 02). I'm using Karmic, Audacity 1.3.9

blah@muhfuggah:~$ lspci | grep udio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)

I cannot switch to ALSA in Karmic since the option to do so isn't there anymore
