Bug Description

The following programs are linked again WxGTK 2.4 which uses the outdated GTK 1:

Audacity
RapidSVN

Please link them against the new WxGTK 2.6 which uses GTK 2.

I think especially Audacity is a important piece of software and should look good for users.

If I find some other SW which uses WxGTK I will add it to this bug report.

I see in AUDACITY_1_2 branch that there have been recent commits to fix compiling against wxwidgets2.6, but there will not be enough time to regression-test an Audacity package compiled against wxwidgets2.6. Since we know Audacity works with wxwindows2.4, I'm voting to defer this to Dapper. Thanks for the note!

A number of programs in that list do not work properly with wx 2.6 yet, and need upstream fixes

It's now nearly dapper, and Audacity is still well ugly, can this not be compiled with gtk2?

Audacity works also with GTK2 now.

In SUSE 10 they compiled it with GTK2 support and it is stable for me and looks much, much better.

@Reinhard:

I think I gave wrong information. I had a look at the installed Audacity and it seems that I downloaded it from

http://packman.links2linux.org

They offer Version 1.3 beta there. The version I downloaded there works with GTK2.

I cannot give you some patches but what about including Audacity 1.3 in Dapper - even it's beta it should be stable enough!?

Or as a workaround improve the look of old GTK1 applications so that they don't look as ugly as they did with older Ubuntu versions.

I'm sorry, but we are past feature freeze. We won't accept new applications or new upstream version of existing applications for dapper unless we have a good reason to do this.

audacity 1.3 is advertised as an experimental and possibly unstable branch, which adds a lot of new features. This does not help us to stabilize dapper.

We can upgrade audacity for dapper+1.

Any changes? As I can see, Audacity still uses GTK 1.X :-(
No change from last post (it's 3 months!).

If passible to get readable GTK1 cyrillic fonts it will be nice for new Ubuntu users. Now Audacity, GNUCash, XMMS GTK1 fonts (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xmms/+bug/36683) make applications unusable out of the box thith UTF-8 locale.

My plan for Feisty is to update to audacity 1.2.6 (keeping its wxwindows2.4 and thus, gtk1, dependencies) and to introduce a new audacity1.3 source package (using wxwidgets2.6 and thus, gtk2).

Rejecting this Ubuntu task.
