Bug Description

I can record sound (I can see the waveform) but when I try to play it back there is no sound output and audacity moves through the audio very quickly. If I press play repeatedly eventually the entire GUI freezes.

I have a similar set up and the same problem . My Ubuntu was an upgrade from 13.04.

The fix is the same as the fix for the sound issues in Skype:

sudo sed -i 's/^Exec=.*/Exec=env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 audacity %U/' /usr/share/applications/audacity.desktop

Thanks for the fix... It works but not if you launch from the command line or by selecting an icon.
I added:

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30
export PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC

to my .profile

Problem present in Mint 17. Fixes suggested by Nicolay and Chris worked.
