Thank you for your patience. I can confirm that there does not appear to be a way to open a file that is on a share that has been accessed from the file manager (in this case, on Lubuntu, from PCManFM) - but this might be more like a feature request rather than a bug.
The other error mentioned in the original bug report no longer seem to be current bugs. I can successfully drag a file from the file manager to Audacious and have it play without issue.
