Bug Description

Hello,

I installed audacious, audacious-plugins, audacious-plugins-extra and audacious-plugins-ugly. Now I want to play a normal Microsoft Windows WAV file, but there comes an error. There was no plugin installed for playing wav.

One of the audacious package must contain the wav plugin, but it does not.

I tried a few different things and found the following behaviour:

"Open with audacious" in Nautilus -> Doesn't work
Drag and drop into the playlist -> doesn't work
But opening via "Play file" in audacious -> works fine (!)

And to make things a little MORE complicated: That only applies to wav-files!
With mp3 files "Open with" and drag/drop work fine, too.

As far as I remember it used to work on Feisty. These problems seem to exist since I upgraded to gutsy.

(Btw: My Ubuntu is german - maybe the translations of the menu entries are wrong. But I guess you know which one I mean.)

Same problem here.
They will try to play if opening using "Open with" as described above, but incorrectly with gaps and clips.

Try unckecking "Detect file formats by extension" from Preferences → Audio → Format Detection.

I have the same problem in XFCE (Xubuntu Gutsy). Drag drop doesn't work, open from audacious works.

I get:

 Unable to play files.

The following files could not be played. Please check that:
1. they are accessible.
2. you have enabled the media plugins required.

Unchecking "Detect file formats by extension" does not help.

If I uncheck "detect by extension" and check "detect file formats on demand", I don't get the above error message when dragging and dropping. Instead, audacious starts to play, but just a brief distorted sound, then stops.

In hardy RC I can play wav files (I couldn't in Gutsy), but the playback stops for a tenth of second each two seconds or so.

Works for me now with audacious=1.5.0.2 and audacious-plugins=1.5.0-1ubuntu1 (hardy release). If problems persist for you, feel free to reopen or file a separate, more specific bug.
