Bug Description

Binary package hint: assogiate

Using ubuntu-8.04/HardyHeron, the assogiate 0.2.1 doesn't assign the chosen icons to the file types I want, but instead leaves them with the default text icon.

This is some terminal output I get when trying to assign an svg icon to a file type:

gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid.

Hi,

I don't run ubuntu but I can't reproduce the bug with the same version of assogiate.

Does it happened with every svg icon ?

Vincent

Well, this is me again. I am in ubuntu 8.10 now, because I upgraded my computer to a laptop, so different hardware, different software, clean configuration.

Now, I don't get the invalid cache error, but it is supposedly succesful:

gtk-update-icon-cache: Cache file created successfully.

But, my files still get no icon.

For example, I made a TODO filetype (obeying that filename pattern) but the icon is just the default text file icon when empty, and when unempty, it gets it's contents rendered on top of the default empty file icon, like a normal plain text file will.

Anyway, if you want to find how many people are having this problem, just go to the ubuntu forums and search for assogiate.

Please fix this when you have time.

I am also experiencing the problem using assogiate 0.2.1-0ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 9.04.

I can reproduce the bug.

The icon is updated in assogiate but not in nautilus. But when I tried with another file browser, like thunar, it works. It might be a bug in nautilus.

Could you try with thunar and see if it works ?

Confirmed for ubuntu-10-04/lucid lynx - thunar shows my new icon for Excel and Powerpoint but not for Word.
Nautilus and the GNOME Desktop do not show the freshly associated types.

I had to run assogiate with sudo make changes visible for thunar.

Changed in assogiate (Ubuntu):

Hi there. Using Lucid Lynx. Using nautilus.

I used assogiate to modify the standard icon for all files of type "PGP/MIME-encrypted (application/pgp-encrypted)". I run assogiate as normal user AND ALSO as root, but nothing happened in both cases.

Please, note that if I modified the textual description I get the correct behaviuor: Nautilus shows the new modified textual description... it only fails when dealing with icons.

Any hint?

Ciao and thanks from Italy.
