Bug Description

I am requesting that both the source and all binary packages of armory be removed from all Ubuntu releases (which is currently just Vivid). I would also like a sync blacklist, so that armory is no longer synced from Debian.

My rationalization is that armory is a Bitcoin wallet and Ubuntu appears to have stricter criteria for stable release updates than Debian does for stable updates. I don't feel comfortable with armory in Ubuntu if it will get out of date in stable releases.

The alternative to removal is to pursue an exception to allow armory to be updated via stable release updates every time a new upstream version is released. I don't feel like trying that option at this time.

Hi,

I am following up to this bug report, because it seems like the armory package has not been removed from ubuntu as per my request. It has been over 2 months (almost 3) since I originally filed the bug report. Did I not do something I should have?

Just forget what I was saying about possibly pursuing an exception for armory. I just want it removed.

Again, and in more detail, my rationalization is that armory is a Bitcoin wallet. Due to the nature of the software, I don't feel comfortable with armory in Ubuntu, because it will get out-of-date in stable releases of Ubuntu. Since the interaction between the outdated armory and current versions of other software (like Bitcoin Core) is untested, there may be bugs that can result in the loss of users' bitcoins. This is why it is imperative that armory be removed from Ubuntu before Vivid is released.

Cheers,
Joseph

Also bitcoin(d) is blacklisted. So this makes armory totally useless.

Also its not sure if it stays in debian, see:

Even without bitcoin(d), Armory is still useful on your offline computer to sign transactions from your online computer. So there is a use case involving the use of Armory without Bitcoin Core.

Thanks for linking the relevent Debian bug reports here. I was already aware of them, since I am the maintainer of armory in Debian, but they may be of interest to others. Armory will stay in Debian, but it will just be in Debian Sid for the foreseeable future, so it won't be in a stable release of Debian. This is the same way bitcoin is handled in Debian. This allows for timely updates to be released.
