Conversion from mpeg2 does not work

I have a mpeg video captured from DVB using MeTV. The file is (according to mplayer):

when i try to convert, it disappears from the queue almost immediately without producing any output. same happens using any profile. Totem can play the original file but complains about missing "private/teletext decoder". there are no errors in stdout.
