aptitude crashed with SIGSEGV

Bug Description

Binary package hint: aptitude

I see quite a few other instances of aptitude crashing, however, for me, aptitude has only just started crashing, whereas these other reports are all much older.

This seems to happen most often when I do an update, and then press 'U' to upgrade all packages.

Hi there
Thanks for your bug report, unfortunately the retrace service has failed, so could you please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the steps described at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and attach the file to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

by the way, could you reproduce this issue with a new account?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I'm also experiencing crashing of aptitude. It happens after the new packages are installed. This is how it looks like:

.
.
.
Setting up gnome-settings-daemon (2.21.90.2-0ubuntu2) ...

Processing triggers for libc6 ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
Press return to continue.

Ouch! Got SIGSEGV, dying..

Segmentation fault (core dumped)
root@desktop:~#

After this crash also gnome-terminal crash report activates (the crash report window appears), but the gnome-terminal is still running.

I think this is the same bug as reported in bug #179874 and #183717.

I have found yet that aptitude only chrashes when upgrading packages, but not when installing new ones.
