aptitude hangs when trying to update nagios-nrpe-server.

Provide at least the full message, which should continue “ (using
foo.deb) ...”. You have not mentioned which version you are
attempting to upgrade to.

Most likely due to issues with your configuration or the nagios-nrpe
package, so assigning this there. If a fault is demonstrated in
aptitude then reassign back with documentation.

Sorry about the incomplete data.

Preparing to replace nagios-nrpe-server 2.12-6ubuntu2 (using
.../nagios-nrpe-server_2.13-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb)

Yes, this should be against nagios-nrpe; used apport-cli to report this
with the PID argument and it didn't let me choose the target package, it
just assumed aptitude.

Not enough information to work with, but this issue is probably fixed in nagios-nrpe (3.0.1-1).
