Bug Description

Binary package hint: apticron

The deb package for apticron 1.1.42 installs both 'cron.d/apticron' and 'cron.daily/apticron', resulting in the apticron script being called twice during the day.

It seems that only 'cron.daily/apticron' is in the pakage
'cron.d/apticron' must relate to a post-install-script or something

Gioele Barabucci (gioele) wrote :

You are right, 'cron.d/apticron' is created by the `post-inst` script:

    cat <<EOF >"$tmpfile"
    # cron entry for apticron

    $min $hour * * * root test -x /usr/sbin/apticron && /usr/sbin/apticron --cron

    ucf --debconf-ok --three-way "$tmpfile" /etc/cron.d/apticron

The changelog file does not contain an explanation for this addition/duplication. I suspect that the author of `post-inst` meant to use '/etc/cron.daily/apticron', not its '/etc/cron.d/' twin. This would explain why they are identical.

Moving to Confirmed after manual inspection of the post-install-script file.

Solved in apticron 1.1.43, now available in Debian archives as apticron 1.1.44, please update Ubuntu's apticron to that version.

This bug was fixed in the package apticron - 1.1.45

apticron (1.1.45) unstable; urgency=low
