Which action? Did you re-check for updates or install other ones? When excatly did you cancel the transaction? During download? Did you use update-manager or software-center?

I've reproduced this during a daily upgrade, deselecting some of the proposed packages (i386libs in my amd64 machine), inserting the password and then the crash.
