Bug Description

Today's update has caused this minor error; if you log into a tty terminal, the available updates message will be written twice, like this:

0 packages can be updated.
0 packages are security updates.
0 packages can be updated.
0 packages are security updates.

What is the output of
$ /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available
on your system?

With the bare command:

delan@delan:~$ /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available

delan@delan:~$

With sudo:

delan@delan:~$ sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available
[sudo] password for delan:

delan@delan:~$

With sudo and --force:

delan@delan:~$ sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available --force

0 packages can be updated.
0 updates are security updates.

delan@delan:~$

It only shows once. However, whatever script calls this script, may be calling it twice.

Oddly, the bug seems to have disappeared; marking as invalid until it happens again (if it does).

It happened for me today on 12.04.2 LTS. Before, every time I logged in, it worked great. Then it started to display that update notification twice every time I logged in.

`sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available --force` fixed it nicely. Now, whenever I log in, it works the way it should once more.
