Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

I have the meerkat beta livecd in my drive; I booted from it with TORAM=yes.

One apt-get update resulted in six separate popups asking if I would like to open it with the package manager.

A second apt-get update got another six popups.

Can you reproduce this with the final version of Maverick?

Yes. Every apt-get or synaptic operation when the CD is still in the drive
pops up multiple times.

Can you post your /etc/apt/sources.list? Maybe there are multiple entries.

Here's a recipe for reproducing this:

1) boot Meerkat desktop livecd (I use amd64, but I don't think it matters) using TORAM=yes
2) System/Administration/Time and Date/ to change the timezone (unless you happen to be at GMT)
3) System/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager to add the universe and multiverse repositories.
The cd started off checked on the menu, I didn't change it.
4) Hit the reload button in Synaptic; you will get all these popups.

When you do a $ sudo apt-get update on the command line, will it also
request 6 times the information from the repository? If not I believe
it's a problem with synaptic rather than apt.

Yes, sudo apt-get update on the command line does this too. (I thought I said that in my first post.)

I just tried to reproduce the problem, but couldn't. I added TORAM=yes to the live CD boot loader, but I don't get that messages. Can you please describe again how to reproduce the problem?

Every time I changed repositories, e.g. to add universe, and then
did 'sudo apt-get update', I'd get the popups.

I should have mentioned that

1) I leave the CD rom in the drive during these operations; if it is ejected, I don't get the popups
2) I've had this happen both with editing the repositories by hand and with synaptic
3) The sequence I use to boot (in case it matters) is to

     a) type space to get menu
     b) hit <enter> for english
     c) hit F6 followed by ESC to get an editable kernel line
     d) remove the existing arguments after the filename (to see the logging lines during boot)
         and just add TORAM=yes
     e) hit <enter> to actually boot

Thanks, I was able to reproduce the problem. Will mark this as a wishlist bug, as it is an inconvenience rather than a break in functionality.
