Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

On Maverick ( apt-0.7.26~exp12ubuntu4 ) apt-get autoremove does not find any removable package. Same applies for synaptic which doesn't show any of many available removable packages.

The bug was not there right after updating to Maverick alpha 3. It appeared at the same time as bug #611925 for me.

Reproducible with a daily live image: just install and remove smartmontools - it will leave bsd-mailx and postfix behind (not marked for automatic removal).

Added the upstream bug report. The workaround seems to work fine: I just put "APT::NeverRemove { "dpkg"; };" into a new file "/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99autoremovebug" and then did a "sudo apt-get autoremove" which removed a bunch of packages.

Thanks ! The workaround works fine and finally I can get rid of unused packages again.
