Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

I have /var/log in tmpfs. Then the directory /var/log/apt does not exist by default.

Then, when running apt-get {install/purge} there is the following segmentation fault on accessing /var/log/apt/history.log

Example:

apt-get purge chromium (last part of strace -e trace=open below)

Removing chromium ...
--- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) ---
                                      open("/etc/localtime", O_RDONLY) = 4
open("/var/log/apt/history.log", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_APPEND, 0666) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
+++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
Segmentation fault
