Bug Description

I updated from 11.04 to 11.10. The update went fine but I get the following error now when launching Synaptic:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Xapian::DatabaseCorruptError'
    Aborted (core dumped)

Attempting to fix this gives me:

$sudo update-apt-xapian-index
No handlers could be found for logger "softwarecenter.db.update"
Reading .desktop files from /usr/share/app-install/desktop/: done.
Traceback (most recent call last):

EOFError

Aptitude and apt-get still work though.
