Bug Description

On setting up ubuntu it would be great to be able to define a apt-proxy before the install tool is looking for resources @ the mirror server...

this is not a bug in apt-proxy.

I have added the ubiquity and debian-installer projects which I believe to be the correct addressees of this enhancement request.

Thank you for correcting this, i also thougt it is wrong in de apt porxy project but i was not shure this is me second bug i report...

I think in debian it is possible to to choose a local apt-proxy on install but in ubuntu it is not, may it has some reasons and is disabled???

Because ubuntu installer, ubiquity, is very rough... More widely, it should ask for the way to go to the Internet.

Yes of course it asks for the way to go to the Internet but for example in my/our case we have about 30 machines running in office and we all are using our apt-proxy it runs quite good,

but if we have to set up a machine we have to download some pages from the net but they would be on our proxy...

i think this would help to avoid a lot of unnecesery traffic....

Where? Didn't see this!

i think wehn all files are copyed succsefull, there is a dialog where you can set a porxy server (not a apt-proxy!!) you can set a squid or something

choose-mirror (alternate installer) used to ask for a proxy in some circumstances; in hardy it asks in all circumstances.

choose-mirror (2.19ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
    - Use Ubuntu mirrors.
    - Ubuntu branding.
    - Set default country to GB.
    - Never ask mirror/suite, mark it untranslatable, and give it
      appropriate choices for Ubuntu.
    - Pick CC.archive.ubuntu.com (for the country selected in the installer)
      as the default mirror.
    - Drop the priorities of the country/mirror questions to medium if we're
installing from a CD that includes the base system.
    - Support setting OVERRIDE_BASE_INSTALLABLE in the environment to force
choose-mirror to assume that the base system is installable.
    - Skip mirror validation if the base system is installable and we're
installing from a mirror in the masterlist.
  * Stop checking if archive.ubuntu.com is reachable before asking for a
proxy. This caused a number of very long delays on systems behind
firewalls that dropped packets they didn't like rather than rejecting
them. Furthermore, now that we have Ubiquity it is less important for
Ubuntu's d-i to ask as few questions as possible, and more important for
it to work correctly in corner cases.
  * Switch to hardy by default.
  * Drop unsupported releases from mirror/suite Choices.

ubiquity has proxy configuration in its Advanced dialog in hardy.

ubiquity (1.7.7) hardy; urgency=low

  [ Mario Limonciello ]
  * Add ubiquity-frontend-mythbuntu.links to source exterior glade files.
  * Add temporary workaround to allow Mythbuntu installs on low res
    displays.
  * Fix case when no themes are removed.

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * Prevent apt-install from installing packages directly unless
install_extras has been run (previously, it would do so once apt was
configured, which produced some confusing error messages).
  * Call apt-setup finish-install script during cleanup, not while
configuring apt; removing cdrom entries from sources.list at this point
broke OEM installs and probably other things (LP: #188240).
  * Fetch http_proxy and no_proxy from gconf (if possible) immediately
    before configuring apt.
  * Update installed file list for apt-setup 1:0.31ubuntu3.
  * GTK frontend:
    - Add proxy configuration to the advanced dialog (LP: #131421).
  * Import DebconfError correctly in summary component (thanks, Jesus L.
    Alvaro; LP: #177442).
  * Build-depend on dctrl-tools rather than grep-dctrl.

  [ Evan Dandrea ]
  * Validate the boot device string that the user provides on the
    advanced page.
  * Change the boot device Entry to a ComboBox that displays suitable targets.
  * Updated the location of gnome-settings-daemon in ubiquity-dm.
  * Fix the installer window appearing briefly when starting automatic mode.
  * Explicitly call GDM/KDM at the end of ubiquity-dm as we now remove the rc
files in casper for only-ubiquity and automatic-ubiquity.
  * Always show the advanced partitioner buttons, greying them out
    conditionally instead of hiding them.
  * Add the progress bar for automatic mode that was already present in
    gtk_ui to kde_ui.
  * Replace the resize slider with a custom widget in gtk_ui.
  * Automatic update of included source packages: apt-setup
    1:0.31ubuntu5, grub-installer 1.27ubuntu5, hw-detect 1.58ubuntu2,
    partman-partitioning 54ubuntu2.

  [ Agostino Russo ]
  * Added debug mode boot parameter
