Installer should check the architecture of the existing OS for the reuse option

Ubiquity was recently redesigned to include an "upgrade ubuntu" option (see bug #723849). I was wondering if this option would allow the user to move from 32-bit to 64-bit (eg.: 10.10 32-bit -> 11.04 64-bit). It would be extremely useful if you could just press a button to upgrade your system from 32 to 64-bit (provided you have a 64-bit processor and the appropriate CD).

This raises a very good point, apt-clone should work just fine, but I need to add code to avoid doing the dpkg-repack in this situation (well, for 32->64 bit it may work thanks to multiarch but generally it will not).

It does ask you to upgrade a 11.04 install to 11.04. I just did it from 32 bit to 64 bit and it didn't boot up afterwards. It turns out I had the linux-generic-pae (32 bit) kernel package installed which it thinks is newer then the linux-generic (64 bit) package..

After manually changing that, (it appears I will have to manually remove the linux-generic pae kernel as well) everything seems to be working fine. (Although none of my apps were transitioned)
