Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt-cacher

I have installed apt-cacher on Ubuntu 11.04 and was trying to run apt-get update. I tried to set up apt-cacher both as a proxy for apt as well as using the path_map option and rewriting the deb urls in sources.list. In both options I see that connection times out when I try to run apt-get update.

apt-cacher version is 1.6.12ubuntu1 and is running in daemon mode.

I tried to telnet to 192.168.1.100 3142 and tried GET of the URL where apt-get update gets timeouts and I get timeouts there as well. I tried wget of the same URL getting a time out there also.

I have enabled Debug::Acquire::http "true"; to apt.conf to see detailed http output during apt-get

Have the same problem with apt-cacher on 11.04. apt-get update hangs at some point and either gets a timeout or a 404 'not found'.

Have switched to using apt-cacher on 10.10 on a server and that works just fine.

Changed in apt-cacher (Ubuntu):

I have the same issue; I thought it was a cache problem and purged the apt-cacher on the server and re-installed, but still does not work.

Just for the info, a solution (though not very standard) has been found for this issue in the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11138693

To summarize, the issue was being caused by the inexistant folder /usr/lib/perl/5.10.1/asm. So we copied over that folder from a clean installation to the system with the problem, and that did the trick.

There's also an attached file in that post if you don't have access to a clean installation.
