Bug Description

Hi!
Since Ubuntu ships AppStream metadata in its archive (starting with xenial), shipping static data in a package is no longer necessary.
In fact, if the package is accidentally installed on a system, it interferes with the fresh data from the archive server due to AppStream-ID collisions.

Please remove the appstream-data package (and all binary packages) from xenial.

appstream-data has no reverse-dependencies anymore.

Cheers,
    Matthias

Should discover, appstream or something else conflict with this package so people can't accidentally have it installed?

Good question... Depends on whether we want to reintroduce the package later, or if some 3rd-parties want to provide a package with that name (likely not the case, so probably having appstream conflict with appstream-data makes sense).

Changed in appstream-data (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Fix Released
