Approx doesn't honour the TMP or TMPDIR variables to specify where temporary files should be created.

As you can see, this bug has been fixed in Debian as well as Ubuntu Maverick. We need a backport for Lucid (LTS -- still supported) as it's breaking on my LTS machine due to needing more space for temporary files than I have in /tmp.
