I ran update-manager, it was working perfectly fine and downloaded all the packages successfully and installed most of them. Once package failed to install (sorry, I can't remember which) and during the installation process I got a number of crash report dialogues. With the exception of the one failed package install, everything seem to work fine (incidentally the update-manager did not keep the failed package in its update list).
