Bug Description

First of all: I am u USER not a PROGRAMMER so use tek with care
It took like half an hour to find this page:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug/?no-redirect
to report a bug for ubuntu 9.10, because all the "normal ways" to report a bug seem to be broken:
- The "report a problem..." dialog that can be found in the start menu or the "run application" menu or the "gnome do" menu JUST DIES when i start it, and i dont care how or why it dies, it just does, and no you fix it yourself
- the "ubuntu-bug" dialog that can be found in the "run application" menu, brings up a completely useless checkbox and if you choose "other problem" it just errors out and dies with some incomprehensible error about a PID. (i have no clue what a PID is or how it affects the fact that i -as a user, not a programmer- have a bug WITH UBUNTU.
- when i google for "ubuntu report bug" (coz everything else seems to be broken), i get here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ReportProblem
where i still cannot report a bug and the link to here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
still doesnt explain how i can JUST BLOODY REPORT A BUG
- launchpad's "report a problem" with ubuntu just links to the useless page above, where no bug can be submitted

i had to look into the ubuntu forums to find the link
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug/?no-redirect
which seems to be the only way to get to a USEFUL bug submission site

AND this still does not fix the bug(s) I have
you can call this a meta-bug if you want

though not being able to report a bug seems to be a classy way to avoid bugs
you seem to be adopting the Microsoft strategy

affects: ubuntu → apport (Ubuntu)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Normally, Ubuntu uses a program known as Apport to report bugs, which automatically posts information about the system in the bug report so users don't have to manually enter this information. However, it seems that Apport is not working correctly on your system. Can you please answer the following questions?

1. What version of Ubuntu are you using?

2. What version of Apport is currently installed on your system? (You can check this by opening Synaptic, searching for Apport, then reporting the "Installed Version")

Ubuntu 9.10
apport version: 1.9.3-0ubuntu4.2

There are two different bugs in this one.
I have created a new bug for the first bug: "report a problem..." in the menu. #522332

Thank you for the response. The Ubuntu packages archive shows that '1.9.3-0ubuntu4' is the latest version of Apport. Is the extra '.2' displayed on your system, or was that a typo?

1.9.3-0ubuntu4.2 is the latest version of apport in karmic-updates :)

Sorry about that, I'm on Lucid so I was referencing the Ubuntu package archive site.

@Olberd
Can you please verify that the 'python-launchpadlib' package is installed on your system?
