Bug Description

Binary package hint: apport

I'm trying to report a kernel bug with the command:

$ ubuntu-bug linux

The tool asks a series of questions, and I answer "No", "No", "Yes", "regression-potential", "No", "This has only happened once", respectively.

After answering the questions, apport presents the following dialog:

  Problem in linux-image-2.6.32-9-ge
  The problem cannot be reported:
  This is not a genuine Ubuntu package

(the title is too wide for the window and the window can't be resized)

I'm running Lucid, up-to-date on 2010-01-16.

Related bug reports:

* Bug #391799:
  "ubuntu-bug -p linux fails to file a bug report against kernel package"
  In this case, I'm *not* using the -p option

* Bug #443961
  "Given that ubuntu-bug is now needed for all bug reports, non-genuine packages should be allowed."

I'm on Lucid, beta I believe.

Mine is:

My kernel stopped upgrading somehow. I don't know how to figure out what's "keeping it back".
Help on the "has been kept back" message mentions two options without a way to figure out
which is the case.

getafix:~> sudo apt-get upgrade

The following packages have been kept back:
  linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic ntfs-3g system-config-printer-common ubuntu-desktop
The following packages will be upgraded:

3 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 6 not upgraded.

After this operation, 1,098kB disk space will be freed.

It appears you are currently running a mainline kernel. It would be better to report this bug upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ so that the upstream kernel developers are aware of the issue. If you'd still like to file a bug against the Ubuntu kernel, please boot with an official Ubuntu kernel and re-file.

FYI, the problem I was trying to report was about the ubuntu PACKAGING of the linux kernel.

Still the reports here seem to indicate that apport tries to check for non-ubuntu kernels and fails (i.e. always things you're running a non-ubuntu-kernel)..
