2009-12-03 18:19:02 Micah Gersten description Binary package hint: apport /etc/default/apport says: # set this to 0 to disable apport, or to 1 to enable it # you can temporarily override this with # sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start enabled=0 but if you try it, that command fails: $ sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8) utility, e.g. service apport start Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start apport start: Job failed to start Please fix the comment. (I haven't managed to find a way to force apport to start without editing /etc/default/apport, i.e. 'sudo force_start=1 start apport' also fails.)
