Bug Description

The Apport window should open with a default vertical size of maximum 600 minus xx pixels so that it can be seen in its entirety in a Netbook.

In fact, this should be the case for all default window pop-ups.

The only time I can see apport as too large is when I open up the content of report, is that what you are referring to?

What resolution are you running at?

Hi Paul,

the present generation of Netbooks usually have 1024 horizontal by 600 pixels vertical.
600 pixels is quite limited and as you can see from the screen shot with a panel at the
top and the bottom of the screen, the useful height is a less than 600 pixels.

If all windows opened at a max. default height of say 550 pixels, then Netbooks
would have no problems and desktops and notebooks could stretch the windows
vertically as needed, with the system remembering the stretched height next time.

524 pixels is best as you also have to worry about 1024x576 displays. With the two bars you have 576 - 48 pixels = 524 vertical usable pixles.

This bug was fixed in the package apport - 1.3-0ubuntu2

---------------
apport (1.3-0ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/local/apport-collect: Pass None as HookUI object. This will crash
    with interactive hooks, but is a good enough immediate bandaid.
    (LP: #385811)
  * Merge fixes from trunk:
    - packaging-apt-dpkg.py: Add backwards compatibility code for python-apt <
      0.7.9 to not break backportability.
    - hookutils.py, command_output(): Force LC_MESSAGES=C, to avoid translated
      output in bug reports. (LP: #383230)
    - apport-gtk.ui: Make details window resizable, and lower default size, so
      that it will fit on small screens. (LP: #365517)
