Bug Description

This happens to 12.04.3, if you file a bug by using apport-bug linux,
the affected package will be "linux-lts-raring (Ubuntu)" on launchpad,
instead of "linux (Ubuntu)" like before.

And only the Dependencies.txt will be appended.

apport version:
ii apport 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4 automatically generate crash reports for debugging
ii apport-gtk 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4 GTK+ frontend for the apport crash report system
ii apport-symptoms 0.16.1 symptom scripts for apport
ii python-apport 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4 apport crash report handling library

since "apport-bug linux" with the same version (17.4) works fine on 12.04.2, I guess it's a release-related issue.

If I try to report a bug with "ubuntu-bug linux-lts-raring" on 12.04.3, it complains about the package does not exist.

Temporary workaround:
File a bug by ubuntu-bug linux
Change the affected project from linux-lts-raring to linux
Run apport-collect #BugNo on the system to upload attachments.

You either installed 12.04.3 from scratch or opted into upgrading to the backported raring kernel. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring indeed exists, so if you are running that kernel then apport is correct in filing bug reports against that instead of "linux".

Changed in apport (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Hello Martin,
Thanks for point that out, I filed another bug more specifically for missing log files. (bug 1229611)

linux-lts-raring do exist on launchpad, but it's not (and can't be) installed on a fresh installed 12.04.3 system,
therefore I'm wondering if it's normal that we cannot file a bug by using "ubuntu-bug linux-lts-raring"?

You are meant to be able to report bugs against _binary_ package names. ubuntu-bug linux is a convenience so we so not have to show users how to work out what they binary linux-image-* package actually is at the time they file the bug. In all cases we want ubuntu-bug linux to do the right thing, and I have hopefully sorted that on your other bug. If that covers what you needed here so close this one out as a DUP of that other bug.

Hello Andy,
Yes, it much more clear now, thanks for the explanation. But I got a new question here.
For the same logic, I guess running "ubuntu-bug linux" on 12.04.2 should open a bug against linux-lts-quantal, right?
Since it's not, I'm wondering if this is also a bug.

Thanks!
