The dpkg log shows that this was happening with python3_3.2.3-5ubuntu1.1, NOT python3_3.2.3-5ubuntu1.2, I'm guessing apport tripped and reported against the wrong package version after it had been successfully upgraded?

It certainly looks like it. Its worth noting that the date in the report is from the 4/10 while this was reported on 4/12, and the history log file shows the package being upgraded on the 10th. I'll add an apport task for this bug to see if we can do something about this.

summary: - package python3 3.2.3-5ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: trying to
- overwrite '/usr/bin/py3versions', which is also in package
- python3-minimal 3.2.3-5ubuntu1
+ incorrect package version in apport-package install failure

There's no python3-defaults issue here. The issue in the bug was in python3 3.2.3-5ubuntu1.1 and fixed in python3 3.2.3-5ubuntu1.2. Not sure why the wrong version got reported, so I'll leave that task open.
