Bug reporting isn't reporting bugs

ubuntu-bug isn't submitting bug reports. Whether I run it manually or compiz crashes (which is happening to me every few minutes) the crash report data is collected, but then never submitted.

These last files attached per my request in bug #994921, because of the report that trying to run 'ubuntu-bug update-manager' results in a backtrace that would indicate corruption in the dpkg database.

I don't see any sign of corruption in the attached files, however. You say you still get this crash if you try to run the ubuntu-bug command? Do you get the same crash if you run ubuntu-bug with a different package name?

More detail: apparently "ubuntu-bug apport" works (I didn't submit, but I got to the details/confirmation window) but "ubuntu-bug ubuntu-desktop" causes the same kind of crash as "ubuntu-bug update-manager"
