Screen was locked, typed my password, there was a 30-second delay between hitting 'enter' key and screen actually unlocking, and when it unlocked this crash report was on the screen. I don't know if perhaps the crash happened previously while the screen was locked, or if the unlocking delay was caused by this crash.

This one happened to me again just now, except this time apport was in the process of uploading a previous crash, and it was going absurdly slowly, I think it took about 10 to 15 minutes for the progress meter completed, and then it crashed at the end.

I was in the process of looking at the list of updates in terminal after sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade. It said the Update manager crashed and sent a report and then this one with apport. I am about to apply the updates thruough terminal.
