Missing menus in ubuntu-sdk when appmenu-qt5 is installed

Bug Description

The menu bar in ubuntu-sdk is completely missing when appmenu-qt5 is installed.

This has been tested in both "Ubuntu(Default)" and "AwesomeWM".

When using "Ubuntu(Default)" I pressed alt to open the menu search dialog but was unable to find any menu items.

I also have this problem running under Gnome Shell. I'm currently on 14.04, and this happened both before and after I installed with SDK team tools-development PPA. Previously on 12.04, I did not see this problem under Gnome Shell.
