Bug Description

/usr/share/app-install/icons/neverball.xpm us a low-quality target icon for some reason, when Neverball is installed it uses a high-quality icon

Okay, apparently neverball ships a bad quality xpm in addition to the good quality pngs, it shouldn't because it just gets in the way. The xpm file should be removed from the packages (I think this is a ubuntu-specific issue in the modified neverball packages?)

The xpm icon is required in order to show any icon in the Debian menu, as shown when the menu-xdg package is installed, or when using alternate menu methods. The xpm icon is farily small, and does not clutter the namespace. Removal will not be considered, as it could lower the quality of experience for some users, does not affect the majority of users, and does not consume significant additional diskspace or bandwidth. Submissions of an improved 32x32 xpm icon would be welcome.

Well it's only noticable because gnome-app-install picks up the xpm and displays it as neverball's icon before it's installed, should g-a-i use pngs before xpms or something?

In my opinion, g-a-i (or rather app-install-data) should use the same algorithm used to determine the appropriate icon in the desktop files when deciding which icon to include. This may represent a bug in the app-install-data-ubuntu, but nothing needs be changed in neverball to support this.

Note that the neverball package actually installs two games: neverball and neverputt (with two separate .desktop files). I'm not sure which is appropriate for use by app-install-data, nor by which algorithm a determination should be made.

Alright, thanks.

(And note that g-a-i displays both neverputt and neverball, but neverball with the xpm before it's installed)

Fixed with app-install-data-ubuntu 0.11.10.2. The new extract script is now retrieving better quality icons when possible (eg for neverball).
