Bug Description

Binary package hint: app-install-data-commercial

If I install app-install-data-commercial and then remove it again, the non-free applications that it added to the list of Add/Remove Applications are still visible.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Boot with the Ubuntu 8.04.1 Desktop live CD.
2) Start a terminal.
3) Execute 'sudo apt-get update'.
4) Execute 'gnome-app-install'. Select "Third party applications": there are no applications in the list. Close the window.
5) Execute 'ls -l /usr/share/app-install/desktop/acroread.desktop'. It says "No such file or directory".
6) Execute 'sudo aptitude install app-install-data-commercial'.
7) Start 'gnome-app-install' again. "Third party applications" now shows a list of non-free programs, like Adobe Reader 9. Close the window.
8) Execute 'ls -l /usr/share/app-install/desktop/acroread.desktop'. The file exists now.
9) Execute 'sudo aptitude --purge remove app-install-data-commercial'.
10) Execute 'ls -l /usr/share/app-install/desktop/acroread.desktop'. It says "No such file or directory".
11) Execute 'gnome-app-install'. It still shows the same lists of non-free programs. Close the window.
12) Execute 'ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/'. It doesn't list the file hardy-partner.list because you haven't clicked any of the checkboxes by the non-free applications.
13) Execute 'sudo update-app-install'.
14) Start 'gnome-app-install' again. It no longer shows any entries in "Third party applications".

I expected to not see any applications in "Third party applications" in step 11.

Since this bug report is for an old version of Ubuntu, I'm adding a "verification-needed" tag...

Please update your Ubuntu to the latest Stable Release and try to replicate this problem, if you still can replicate this bug... please remove the "verification-needed" tag and add a "verification-done" tag and change the status to "confirmed", this will let me and other users know to revisit this bug report.

gnome-app-install is not 9.10. Any chance of this bug still getting fixed in 8.04? At first glance it looks like it's just a matter of copying postinst to postrm.

@Sam very few bugs get fixed in released versions of Ubuntu - if you like to see it fixed, you should attach a patch to fix it, and be prepared to guide this through the SRU process.
