Bug Description

Binary package hint: apcupsd

Most recent UPS devices intended for use with a single workstation come with a USB cable. Such devices should be recognized and automatically configured. In Ubuntu 10.10 nothing happens when connecting such a UPS.

The following changes are needed once such detection has taken place:

- Install the apcupsd and gapcmon packages
- In /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf
-- Change UPSCABLE smart to UPSCABLE usb
-- Change UPSTYPE apcsmart to UPSTYPE usb
-- Change DEVICE /dev/ttyS0 to DEVICE
- In /etc/default/apcupsd
-- Change ISCONFIGURED=no to ISCONFIGURED=yes
- Issue this command (or reboot):
sudo service apcupsd restart

You can verify the UPS is working by issuing
sudo service apcupsd status

Then to get UPS status information:
- Go to Applications > System Tools > APCUPSD Monitor
- Under the Preferences tab click Add
- Once you've added your local UPS device it should show the appropriate information.
