Bug Description

Binary package hint: amule

This release could be considered a bugfix release since most of the innovations of aMule 2.2.1 are already included in the latest svn.

Download tarball (it is necessary to rename debian by debian-upstream):
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/amule/aMule-2.2.1.tar.bz2

amule (2.2.1-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream (LP: 239580)
    - The "Soon" release ;D
    - Renamed debian/ to debian-upstream/
    - Fixed "use Konqueror as default browser" Now amule
      will use the browser's default system (LP: 209810)
    - Fixed "aMule makes bad hashlinks (ed2k://)" (LP: 187041)
  * debian/control
    - Require libupnp3 for uPnP support in amule-daemon (from debian package)
    - Change to libcrypto++-dev (>= 5.5.2-2)
    - Updated Standards-Version to 3.8.0 with necessary changes
  * debian/rules
    - Pass --with-denoise-level=0 to configure, so that the full g++ invocations
      are printed, and not just "Compiling foo". (from debian package)
  * debian/amuled_home_wrapper.sh
    - aMule 2.2.1 no longer assumes a Latin-1 charset, and refuses
      to handle files with non-ASCII characters if the running
      locale does not support them. (from debian package)
  * debian/patches
    - removing_SVN_warning_window.diff
      Removed. It is no longer needed.
    - Update patch configure_ignore_gdlib-config_garbage.diff
  * debian/TODO
    - More tasks

The reason for configure_ignore_gdlib-config_garbage.diff is indeed to not have those dependencies in amule, as Kry said. They will of course be in amule's dependencies, so they will still be installed by those libraries, but they won't be in amule's Depends, making transitions and stuff like that easier, so we still want it.

Ok, a few issues:

you are removing one debian/changelog entry
I don't like the amule-utils.postinst magic. You should be doing that on the system level, and not on a per-user basis.
a merge with debian would be nice
from my reading of /usr/share/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.txt.gz, you need to create a debian/README.source file as there are patches in the packaging:

      * If dpkg-source -x doesn't produce source ready for editing and
        building with dpkg-buildpackage, packages should include a
        debian/README.source file explaining how to generate the patched
        source, add a new modification, and remove an existing
        modification. This file may also be used to document packaging a
        new upstream release and any other complexity of the Debian build
        process. [4.14]

I did not understand very well the issue of README.source. At the end I chose to explain briefly the patches that includes aMule, but I do not know if that is what was requested.

Note: Now, there is nothing "magic"

Debian has uploaded 2.2.1 to Unstable, and our delta is minimal and pointless. Can you turn this bug into a sync request?

There is almost no change, only one parameter in for configure file:

 "- Pass --with-denoise-level=0 to configure, so that the full g++ invocations are printed, and not just "Compiling foo". (from debian package)"

The other change was already implemented. I have also deleted the bug that was already fixed with 20080525 svn for Intrepid.

amule (2.2.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * The "I Don't Want to Get Over You" release.

  * New upstream release. (Closes: #486372)
  * Add calls to dh_icons and dh_desktop in debian/rules.
  * Pass --with-denoise-level=0 to configure, so that the full g++ invocations
    are printed, and not just "Compiling foo". Thanks, Werner Mahr.
