Bug Description

Hi,

don't know if it's a bug but amarok terminates on close if there is no system tray icon enabled in ubuntu 12.04. Shouldn't it hide like other programs (instant messangers clients fo example) to indicator and play music in background? AFAIK unity abandoned tray icons usage, instead it comes with indicators. They works quite good with Amarok so why not to hide under indicator on close?

My os:

piotrek@piotrek-desktop:~$ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

Amarok version: 2:2.5.0-0ubuntu6

Why it was marked as duplicate? Bug #992262 is about that sound indicator stops working after amarok close, not about why it don't hide on close. I've only mentioned that imo it is incorec to terminate amarok on close and not to hide it in sound indicator. It was my opinion not so much related to bug #992262.

I've addressed this bug to amarok because in #992262 developers wrote that it's up to amarok (or someone else who post patch to amarok team and they approve it) to change his behaviour on close, when running under unity. And my bug report was changed to wishlist. Ok I understand it. Maby amarok team will work on this if they have time to. But what I don't understand is why it was reassigned to indicator-sound? What possible bug in indicator-sound makes amarok terminate on close when there is no tray icon? Please read commnts in #992262. Thank you.

This is like the other bug. The Amarok developers are happy with their current design and if Unity people was their users to have a good experience, they'll have to figure out how to manage it.

Filing more bugs trying to convince Amarok developers to spend time on this isn't a productive use of anyone's time.

What would be productive is coming up with a patch to do this if and only if running in a Unity session. Such a patch should be sent to bugs.kde.org and (as in the other bug) I'll be glad to advocate to the Amarok developers they apply it.

Please don't write anymore bugs on this.

This is not an issue in indicator-sound. Judging by the previous comments, amarok developers don't have interest in supporting this upstream. I'm marking it as a bug in ubuntu's amarok package instead.

no longer affects: indicator-sound

*Sigh*: sorry, but please read comment #5, this is NOT up to us to fix. "Supporting this upstream" makes absolutely no sense, we are not Unity developers and don't use Unity, Provide a fix and we would be happy to implement it, but it is NOT an Amarok bug, a feature request at most.
