You can right-click->show hidden folders in Konqueror, but not in Amarok. I still think it's a valid bug, because the user is not given a way to access those files. Ideally, right-click->show hidden folders would allow directories such as /mnt to become visible in Amarok's collections.

This is part of the new features in kubuntu 6.10 only the user accessable files are shown by default. If you store your music in a non-standard folder for users you are welcome to edit the .hidden file in your root directory to your liking, this will all be documented in the release notes of the final release, thanks
