amaroK's "Cool-Streams" lists mp3 streams

Bug Description

Within amaroK's "playlists" tab, there is a section there labelled "Cool-Streams" (within "Radio Streams"). Within that, there are many Internet radio stations.

The issue is that the majority (if not all) of these streams rely on mp3 support from Dapper. Being as Dapper will not ship with mp3 support out of the box, maybe these streams should be removed so that the user will not assume the application is broken when exploring these streams.

Some streams may be replaceable with more open formats. I know that the Frequence3 station also has ogg streams running which Ubuntu could use.

If any more feedback/information is needed, feel free to ask.

Yes, it would be nice to change the stations from Amarok's defaults to ones that work out of the box, perhaps adding some international news stations or something similar besides just music?

With https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+bug/52944 fixed, (after knot 1 freeze ends) amarok will now offer to install the codecs, so that you can play mp3's.

However, can you list some suggestions of links to streams you would like to see in there? Particularly open format ones :)

Hi,

I listen to the Frequence 3 internet radio station a lot. They offer streams in mp3, ogg and aac+.

The ogg stream sounds remarkably better than the mp3 one, and uses less bandwidth. The playlist is attached.

Edgy will ship with a special script telling the user that mp3 support is not available and that it can get it from the servers - so users will not think the app is broken.

Anyway, the problem is there aren't lot good internet radios out there using vorbis.

But... feel free to collect a list and send it to <email address hidden>
