Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

Basically, since upgrading to Jaunty, particularly the latest round of updates, Amarok no longer plays music. I can't say that I'm 100% sure it was working the first time I installed Beta 1. This is not CD audio either, just mp3's that were playing fine in Kubuntu 8.04.

Confirmed here on Jaunty/Ubuntu. 2.0.2 thinks it's playing but it's not. I can feed it songs from my library or shoutcast and nothing plays

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start Amarok 2.0.2
2) Double click on a song or media stream
3) Watch as it does .... *nothing*

The play bar shows the play status as max, and the status bar states "playing ..." but nothing is playing. All other players on the system work (Rhythmbox, VLC, Totem) but not Amarok. Even the on screen display pops up when a song is finished.

Exactly the same here, it's reproducible by me. Using Jaunty with Amarok 2.0.2 (which uses KDE 4.2.2). I've tried reinstalling everything to do with amarok that I can find (including the various xine libs) reinstalling amarok. I've not tried to reinstall KDE as that seems a bit extreme. It doesn't seem to matter if the music is in my collection or not, I can't add them from the filesystem either. My music is on a mix of local drives and NFS drives, but it doesn't seem to make any difference where the music is located.

I can't see anything in /var/log/messages and there doesn't seem to be an amarok specific log. I've got all my sound set to auto-detect, I've tried using pulseaudio but that makes no difference.

Make sure you have phonon-backend-xine and libxine1-ffmpeg installed.
If this fixes the bug please report it here so that we can close it.

Out of curiosity, could you tell me which was the package missing from the two in order to know which bug to specify it as a duplicate of?

Glad I helped :-)

It seems that when I selected
phonon-backend-xine

the other got selected as a dependency or something, so I guess you need both of them

Thanks again
