magnatune won't do anything

Bug #1580604 reported by pieter k

amarok (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

My system:
Xenial 64 bit.

Magnatune won't do anything with the standard distribution.

I stubled upon the build amarok-utils (2:2.8.0-0ubuntu7) and that worked. Only today came the update amarok-utils (2:2.8.0-0ubuntu9) and again it doesn't work anymore.

I see the (2:2.8.0-0ubuntu7) is now removed from the servers.

You do realise that you need not only amarok-utils, but also amarok and amarok-common, and those should all have the same version number.

Thank you for your reaction.
Yes I do realize that. And I did.
And still the latest update does no more than the original one.
Only the 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu7 works.

I think this is not a disaster. But perhaps the people at Magnatune are not happy with this development.

b.t.w. (I'm curious) can you reproduce this bug?

I do not use Amarok 2.8.0 on 16.04, I use a local installation of current git master, and Magnatune does certainly work well here, so this is really a packaging problem of the distribution I would say.

Some quick debugging shows a bunch of DB issues at least:

amarok: [ERROR__] [MySqlStorage] "GREPME MySQLe query failed! (1406) Data too long for column 'description' at row 1 on INSERT INTO magnatune_albums ( name, year, artist_id, album_code, cover_url, description ) VALUES ( 'Ill Be Here Awake', 2004, 682, 'yoria-here', '', 'Ten playfully wicked, exceptionally well-crafted songs make up Arthur Yoria\'s full length debut, I\'ll Be Here Awake. Yoria says it\'s a straight-forward rock album that was written from the point of view of a \"nasty, egotistical fictional character\" that he vicariously lives through from time to time. However, Yoria\'s natural warmth makes this character charming in the way that cads can be when they\'re also talented, funny, and smart. It\'s a testament to Yoria\'s talent, in fact, that the general lack of typical indie rock neurosis comes off as refreshing rather that callous. Yoria is soulful, but mostly at peace with his preference for independence and fun. To wit, \"Call Me\" beautifully nuanced insight into the mind of the chronically unavailable male, and \"P.S.A.\" may be the most beguiling little ditty about masturbation ever written. \"Sevilla\" describes a seething jealousy in the most lilting possible tones, and \"At Least You\'ve Been Told\" is a cagey rock number that rails against stagnant situations. \"Here To Stay\" is the highlight of the entire album though?it\'s a patiently delivered, doggedly inspiring pop shanty. Yoria\'s evil twin be prone to fleeing the scene?but he\'s also always reminding us that at least in an archetypal sense, he\'s not going anywhere.' );"
