Bug Description

Binary package hint: plymouth

When booting Maverick, I can see and hear my speakers being recognized (the volume knob is lit) but mutes (both internal and external speakers) just before the boot is complete. I can unmute them easily enough, but it should not be doing this.

My sound card is an Intel 82891FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) and my speakers a Logitech AudioHub. The USB devices attached to the AudioHub are working nominally.

Are you saying that, from a fresh boot, all outputs are muted after
logging into a GNOME session?

Setting to Confirmed as I'm seeing this issue too.

@Daniel: Yes, that's exactly what I experience

@Stefan: Please attach output from running the amixer command in a
terminal immediately post-login.

Yes. They can be un-muted easily enough; either through the sound applet or the PulseAudio Volume Control applet, but they are muted on boot.

What seems to happen is that audio is enabled early in the boot process but muted at the moment that the login sound would be played.

If log out and in again after un-muting, they remain active.

Daniel, I'm really sorry but I'm not able to reproduce it anymore.
Wondering if some kind of update fixed this O_o
Therefore setting back to Incomplete

Christopher, please do what Daniel suggests in his most recent problem, i.e running alsamixer in a terminal immediately after logging in.

To clarify, what Daniel wants is that you follow the instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo immediately after having logged in (i e when things are still "broken") and attach the result to this bug. Thanks!
