i have two sound cards
$ cat /proc/asound/modules
0 snd_cmipci
1 snd_intel8x0
and the behavior of those is erratical, meaning that not all programs use always the same card |

i'm using edgy, i don't know if it was the same in dapper. |

There are two methods of resolving this issue, any one of which is sufficient.
1) Erase ~/.asoundrc*
2) Execute: asoundconf set-default-card CMI8738MC6 |

Fixed in alsa-utils 1.0.11-6ubuntu2. |
