Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10

Seems it is pulseaudio problem. Gnome volume show no audio hardware installed right after boot but alsamixer works properly. If I'm routing audio directly to ALSA I hear sound.

affects: ubuntu → alsa-utils (Ubuntu)

I can confirm this issue on Karmic, amd64, integrated Intel HD Audio soundcard.

Do you have sl-modem-daemon installed? If so, is it running?

Removing sl-modem-daemon solved the problem

I am experiencing the same problem on Karmic (on my Gateway MX6920 laptop) too,

<code>
$uname -r
2.6.31-14-generic
</code>

my sound card is:
<code>
$lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
</code>

and removing sl-modem-daemon was effective.

The workaround is to remove sl-modem-daemon.

Changed in alsa-utils (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
tags: added: pulseaudio sl-modem-daemon
tags: added: alsa

On my HP tablet with intel hda card, deactivating the smartlink driver and then reloading alsa solved sound issue. I installed karmic last week on it..worked fine for 2 days then no audio..i recomplied alsa drivers..worked for 2 days and again no sound).

I have deactivated the driver. If it stops working again, will uninstall it.
How do I use the modem btw..its a proprietary driver right..no o/s driver available..
