Hi all,
 I have been having crackling audio stuff. I ran a .VOB file under VLC and got the following output.

in gnome-sound-properties everything is set to alsa. Please lemme know if any more tests or anything is needed.

Putting it under 2.6.28-3 or 2.6.28-4 has the same thing.

I get better quality of audio by doing the following :-

Edit /etc/pulse/default.pa and specific this line

load-module module-hal-detect

Add this bit to the same

load-module module-hal-detect tsched=0

Doing so makes the audio frames not drop.

Same for me as well, my audio quality returns to normal when I add tsched=0 to the PA config file.

What are the contents of /etc/asound.conf and/or ~/.asoundrc?

Daniel,
      You should close it down for the moment for I'm back on Intrepid
for the moment. Would go back to Jaunty in a week or so then perhaps
may be able to give the details, sorry :(

What fixed the problem for me for vlc was to install vlc-plugin-pulse, which was not used by default.

So sudo apt-get install vlc-plugin-pulse stopped the crackling (running jaunty).
