USB headset no input

New install of 13.04, my Andrea PureAudio USB-SA Headset is recognised in sound settings, but the mic is not working at all. Sound output is fine.

The same headset still works fully on a different machine with 12.10 installed, and is not muted.

In Audacity, the headset appears in the output selection, but not in the input selection.

I made an entry on the /usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf file as described in #1002952- that partially resolved the S/PDIF listing error, but had no effect on the problem described here
