There is no automute between the laptop internal speakers and the headphone.

But if the headphones are connected before switching on the PC, automute is activated

You're a star. Adding that option line to alsa-base.conf did the trick and
it's working as it should be now.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
