Bug Description

When I play music on my Dell XPS 15 (L502X) with ubuntu 12. 04, it seems as if the subwoofer is not working - the subwoofer volume control is disabled in system settings. The sound quality is pretty poor in comparison to the quality when I had Windows 7.
The sound via the audio jack is just fine.
Alsa info: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=cbdbb9f190a11e232bb13f571f0300efe2cfb262
I'm using the stable version of all packages.

All help is appreciated.

This also affect my Dell XPS 17 (L702X), also running Ubuntu 12.04. I also see the subwoofer volume control as greyed out in the system settings.

The subwoofer volume is greyed here, but the sound seems ok.

Sound is okay... subwoofer and case tend to rattle because of the volume of the subwoofer unit is overpowering.

I had the revelation of sticking my ear near the subwoofer grille today... and it's also working, despite having no interface to control it. (I was just a bit surprised at how crappy the sound was, even with a subwoofer!)
