Bug Description

I used alsa-dkms driver with Oneiric, and mics do work correctly. I had clean sound, and two different devices (internal and external) with different adjustable levels. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/898081

After upgrade, mic was really noisy and crackling. Adding "options snd-hda-intel position_fix=2" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf corrected the worst crackling, but the mic is still very noisy, and moreover, I have only one mic setting available, which creates a problem given that the levels of the two devices is very different.

Using the alsa-daily PPA gave a totally broken configuration, no sound at all.

Said that, the mic is usable with the position_fix=2 quirk added, but I report this nevertheless, as requested.

That seems related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/927961
